歴史†
- 1899年 万国緯度観測事業 (International Latitude Service; ILS) 発足。
- 緯度観測所＝現在の国立天文台水沢VLBI観測所もこのために設立されました。
- 1962年 国際極運動観測事業 (International Polar Motion Service; IPMS）へ改組。
- 1987年 IAUとIUGGによりIPMSとBIHの地球回転部門を統合して、国際地球回転観測事業 (International Earth Rotation Service; IERS) 設立。1988年より活動開始。
- 2003年 国際地球回転・基準系事業 (International Earth Rotation and Reference systems Service) に改称。略称はIERSのまま。
